OUTGROWING BRASS KEYS
The City of Lakeville Parks & Recreation manages a growing network of parks, athletic
facilities, concession buildings and community-use spaces. As facility usage expanded,
managing access through traditional brass keys became increasingly difficult for Mark
Kruse, Parks Superintendent, and his team. Lost keys, former users retaining access
and the administrative burden of issuing and recovering keys created significant
security and operational challenges. “We had so many lost keys, and people that
were just randomly out in the city still had keys to buildings and were gaining access.
We couldn’t control it anymore.”
RETHINKING ACCESS ACROSS THE PARK SYSTEM
While exploring options to improve facility security and simplify access management,
Lakeville partnered with GAPPA Security Solutions and Proxess to pilot a new approach.
Following a successful test installation, the city deployed Proxess across its
park system, replacing traditional key management with secure electronic credentials
and mobile access.
TRANSFORMING THE WAY FACILITIES ARE MANAGED
Today, Lakeville Parks & Recreation has reduced physical key issuance by more than
99 percent while improving security, operational efficiency and user convenience.
Automated facility schedules have eliminated daily lock and unlock routines for many
locations. Renters, contractors and athletic associations receive access only when
needed, while staff can quickly grant, modify or revoke credentials without distributing
brass keys. “Our confidence in security is significantly higher than what it used to
be…it’s just easier to either provide or deny access.” Proxess has become a strategic
tool for improving security, reducing operational costs and delivering a better experience
for staff, partners and community users across a growing park system.
